Anti-Hate Table Manager

Summary

American Progress has an immediate opening for an Anti-Hate Table Manager. This person will oversee partnership coordination and provide communication support, policy analysis, research, and written support for CAP’s efforts to reduce the influence of anti-immigrant strategists and anti-immigrant rhetoric in the immigration debate. This person will have day-to-day responsibility for managing CAP’s collaboration with allied organizations opposing hate in the immigration debate, called the anti-hate table. This position is part of CAP’s immigration team and is supervised by a Senior Fellow.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate activities of anti-hate table, including:
    • Acting as a primary liaison with partner organizations
    • Working with table members to identify and support shared work
    • Developing with Senior Fellow and table members the agendas for quarterly meetings, then managing the logistics of those meetings
    • Coordinating projects involving multiple table members such as overseeing small group meetings and conference calls; tracking shared work; following up on partner commitments; and identifying, interpreting, and addressing organizational capacities, differences, and interests
    • Implementing and moderating online discussion tools to support research and dissemination of research by and among table members
    • Working with CAP and partner organizations’ communications staff to ensure effective communication and dissemination of research to reduce the influence of anti-immigrant and/or hateful rhetoric
    • Tracking federal and state policy developments and directing the anti-hate table’s strategic response to those developments as appropriate, including rapid response, action items, authoring or commissioning original research or analyses, and authoring or commissioning original policy proposals
    • Researching, writing, and editing policy reports, analysis, fact sheets, columns, and other materials on a wide range of timely topics reflecting the implications of hateful rhetoric and organized anti-immigrant strategists on justice, fairness, and democracy, and supporting the Immigration Team in the same efforts
    • Participating actively and as appropriate in the planning and strategy efforts of the broader CAP immigration team such that anti-hate work benefits from, contributes to, and is fully integrated into broader CAP strategy and capacity
    • Coordinating with CAP's other policy departments on crosscutting issues such as health care, faith, economics, energy, and national security
    • Coordinating with CAP staff in other departments working on issues of hateful rhetoric and organized efforts to undermine the rights of people of color and religious minorities
    • Representing CAP in diverse settings including meetings with civil rights organizations, academics, researchers, advocates, media, conferences, and panel discussions

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, graduate degree preferred
  • Four or more years experience in policy, academia, and/or advocacy research with an understanding of anti-immigrant strategies and rhetoric
  • Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team as both a leader and committed member
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of state and federal legislative and administrative policymaking processes
  • Strategic thinker with ability to initiate and engage in creative approaches to advancing policy
  • Spanish speaker preferred
  • Familiarity with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) regulations preferred
