Designer/Production Artist

Summary:

The Center for American Progress is seeking a Designer/Production Artist. The Designer/Production Artist will work as part of a small team producing innovative visual solutions to communications challenges in print, Web sites, and marketing materials. He or she will be responsible for the layout and production of print publications, development of graphics for both print and web, and working with outside printers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, lay out, and produce reports and other publications, often including photos and magazine-style visual techniques
  • Create charts, graphs, and informational graphics from data, working with report authors
  • Produce promotional brochures, displays, and packaging
  • Work with outside vendors to manage print jobs
  • Collaborate with team to create innovative design solutions across all media
  • Develop graphics for Web and video as needed
  • Assist with Web design projects as needed

 Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Highly creative, excellent written and verbal communications skills, attentive to detail
  • Able to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient with design-related applications, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • At least two years' professional design experience
  • A strong understanding and sense of fundamental design principles
  • Experience with basic news design and typography
  • Commitment to organization’s mission and goals
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in graphic design
  • Experience with digital prepress/preflight management of print jobs and working with external print vendors
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and Dreamweaver
  • Web design and multimedia production skills
  • Proficiency working in a Mac OS X environment
