Associate Director of Press Relations, Economic and Health Care Policy

Summary
American Progress has an immediate opening in our Communications department for Associate Director of Press Relations for Economic and Health Care Policy. The Associate Director will be responsible for working with the economic and health care policy staff to develop and implement a communications plan and press roll-out plans for American Progress initiatives, serving as a spokesperson for the Center, and working with other members of the communications team to facilitate op-ed placement as well as television and radio bookings.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and implement a communications plan for the Center’s economic and health care work.
- Work with policy staff to develop specific press plans for American Progress work.
- Develop and implement editorial board strategies, including placement of op-eds.
- Pitch reporters on covering American Progress initiatives.
- Serve as a spokesperson for American Progress.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- At least six years professional work experience.
- At least three years of experience working with the media.
- Relevant policy experience is necessary.
- “On the record” spokesperson experience a plus.
- Ability to build, motivate, and work within a team to accomplish project goals.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Entrepreneurial; strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills.
- Ability to incorporate cross-disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
- Ability to diagnose problems and identify creative solutions.
- Thorough knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel a plus.
- Experience working with 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) organizations a plus.
- Committed to the organization’s mission and goals.
