Catherine Powell, Senior Fellow

Catherine Powell a Senior Fellow at American Progress, focused on national security and human rights issues.  She is also an Associate Professor of Law at Fordham Law School, where she teaches international law, human rights, and comparative constitutional law.  She co-chairs the American Constitution Society's Working Group on International Law and the Constitution. Professor Powell is also on the Human Rights Watch board and chairs the Human Rights Watch/ U.S. Program Advisory Committee. From 1998 to 2002, Professor Powell was on the faculty at Columbia Law School, where she was the founding executive director (1998-01) and faculty director (2001-02) of the Human Rights Institute and taught a Human Rights Clinic. Prior to teaching, Powell was, from 1994-98, a staff attorney at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
