Ronald A. Paulus
Ronald A. Paulus, MD, MBA, is Executive Vice President and Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, responsible for ensuring system-wide innovation at Geisinger Health System.
Immediately prior to joining Geisinger, he was Chief Healthcare Officer for Quovadx, Inc., responsible for healthcare strategy for this software and services company with more than 450 employees and 10,000 customers worldwide. Dr. Paulus was co-founder, President and CEO of CareScience, Inc., where he had also served as President and Chief Operating Officer. CareScience, now part of Premier healthcare informatics, is a clinical solutions and data analytics provider which aims to improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare and to support drug and product development for life sciences companies.
Before joining CareScience, Dr. Paulus served as Vice President, Operations of Salick Health Care, Inc., a national provider of ambulatory services to individuals with high-risk, chronic diseases primarily focused on oncology and dialysis patients. While at Salick Health Care, he also served as Managing Director of its INFUSX subsidiary, a provider of alternate site therapies to patients with high risk, chronic diseases.
Dr. Paulus received his MD degree from The School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, and his MBA, concentration in healthcare management, and BS in Economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Paulus has served on numerous national panels and advisory boards including: the Healthcare Information Technology Advisory Board for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), the Inpatient Functionality and Interoperability Workgroups for the Certifying Commission on Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), the eHealth Initiative Leadership Council, the Information Technology Workgroup of the Academic Medicine and Managed Care Forum, the Data Standards Workgroup of the National Quality Forum Institute of Medicine Summit on Information Technology, the IBM Healthcare and Lifesciences Advisory Council and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Alumni Leadership Council. He teaches in the Wharton Healthcare MBA Program and speaks nationally on innovation, new care model design, clinical transformation, EHR optimization, data analytics and pay-for-performance.
