Striking a New Balance
Renewing and Reviewing the PATRIOT Act
October 27, 2009, 10:00am - 11:30am
The expiration at the end of this year of several provisions of the 2001 USA PATRIOT Act relating to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and domestic surveillance of terrorism suspects has prompted fresh debate in both houses of Congress over the appropriate balance between counterterrorism authorities for U.S. law enforcement agencies and the need to preserve American civil liberties.
Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund for a discussion on this important issue with Representative Jane Harman (D-CA), chairwoman of the House Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Intelligence, Information Sharing, and Terrorism Risk Assessment, and the Center’s Rudy deLeon and Ken Gude.
