Eli Adashi

The outgoing Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences and the Frank L. Day Professor of Biology at Brown University, Dr. Adashi - Harvard-educated in Health Care Management (MS; 2005; HSPH) - is a Physician-Executive with over 25 years of experience in domestic and international Health Care. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Council on Population Growth of the World Economic Forum, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Science and its Board on Health Sciences Policy, the Association of American Physicians, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. Adashi is a veteran practitioner of Women's Health and an advocate for Reproductive Health, Freedom and Rights. The founder of Brown Medical School’s Scholarly Concentration in Global Health – Dr. Adashi - an adviser to the WHO, the World Bank, the Rockefeller Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is a recent Franklin fellow and Senior Advisor on Global Women's Health to the Secretary of State Office of Global Women's Issues. Dr. Adashi is also a member of the Board of Directors of Physicians for Human Rights, the International Advisory Board of the Medical School for International Health, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and of the Board of Governors of Tel Aviv University. In addition, Dr. Adashi is the Editor of the One on One interview series with Medscape (an international/web-based medical information outlet for health care professionals) as well as a past contributor to the Washington Post (Op Ed), Science Progress (an online outlet of the Center for American Progress), and Latino Public Radio.

A native of Israel, Dr. Adashi (a naturalized U.S. citizen) received his medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine of Tel Aviv University. Postgraduate training followed suit at the New England Medical Center of Tufts University, at Johns Hopkins University and at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Adashi held faculty positions at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the University of Utah Health Sciences Center, and Brown University. At present, Dr. Adashi is a tenured Professor of Medical Science at Brown University.
