Ending the Conflict Minerals Trade
June 29, 2010, 12:00pm – 1:30pmOur demand for cell phones, laptops, and other electronics is helping to fuel the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Congo is rich in the minerals that make our electronic gadgets work, and these conflict minerals are one of the main drivers of a war that has cost more than five million lives. Hundreds of thousands of women have been raped in the Congo, making it the world's most dangerous place to be a woman or girl.
Please join the Enough Action Fund as Under Secretary of State for Economic, Energy, and Agricultural Affairs Robert D. Hormats shares what the United States is doing to end the trade in conflict minerals. Following the speech, a panel of Congressional leaders, policy experts, and Congolese activists will discuss and respond.
