Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH)

DENNIS J. KUCINICH is in his sixth term in Congress and is one of labor’s strongest advocates in the House. The Conyers-Kucinich bill, HR 676, provides for Medicare for All. It is a comprehensive plan which would create a universal, single payer, not-for-profit system which would enable all American families to have full coverage, plus dental, vision, mental health, prescription drugs, and long term care. Over 70 members of Congress support the Conyers-Kucinich bill. “Families are going bankrupt, losing their homes because they can’t pay the doctor bills. Labor unions are struggling with maintaining wage levels in the face of demands for givebacks over health insurance. Our largest industries are in trouble over the high cost of health insurance. My plan would restore the health and the economic hopes of our nation. I will campaign all across the country on this issue because I believe that all Americans are health care voters. The only way to achieve health care for all is to end the control which for-profit insurors have over our system. The truth is we are already paying for universal health care. We are not getting it because for-profit insurance companies control the system,” Congressman Kucinich has said.
Kucinich also is a leading spokesman for peace. He was the leading vote against the war. He has a plan which would end the war, bring the troops home, and stabilize Iraq. He has been a leader in the effort to repeal NAFTA. As President he is prepared to return to bilateral trade, conditioned on workers’ rights, human rights, and environmental quality principles. At home he favors the creation of a new WPA-type jobs program which would put millions of Americans back to work rebuilding America’s roads, bridges, water systems, sewer systems, hospitals, universities, and libraries.
In Cleveland Kucinich is known as a tireless community advocate who has lead the way in saving a municipal electric system, a steel mill, an aircraft parts factory, libraries, parks, fire stations, and other facilities. He worked closely with the SEIU in saving a Cleveland community hospital and hundreds of jobs.
