ADVISORY: Sen. Kaine to Deliver Speech on Congress’ Role in Authorizing the Fight Against ISIS

Washington, D.C. — President Barack Obama’s robust strategy to degrade and ultimately defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, or ISIS, which includes the use of American military force, has raised questions about what Congress’ role should be in the authorization of military force against the militant group.

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) has been a strong advocate for Congress’ substantive and constitutional role in defining and authorizing the fight against ISIS. He has pushed his fellow members of Congress to fulfill their responsibilities and introduced legislation that would authorize the mission the president outlined and impose appropriate limits on the military campaign against ISIS.

Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund for an event featuring a keynote address by Sen. Kaine on the fight against ISIS and Congress’ appropriate role in this critical debate.
