Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress Action Fund today released a video examining the major failures of the House Republican budget. Featuring CAP Action experts, including former Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello, the video responds to House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) video promoting his 2012 budget. Rep. Ryan claims his plan is a "path to prosperity." CAP Action’s video explains why the House plan is nothing more than a giveaway to the prosperous, paid for by the middle class.

Quotes from the video:
Tom Perriello, President of the Center for American Progress Action Fund
“This [plan] is not a path to prosperity it’s a dead-end for the American middle class. Center for American Progress Action is proud to stand with the working and middle class to demand an economy that works for all Americans and not just the few. We still believe that America can be a place where everybody gets a fair shot and a fair shake at the American dream.”
Michael Linden, Director, Tax and Budget Policy
“Chairman Ryan claims that his plan would reduce the debt, but that’s actually not true. With the enormous tax cuts that he’s proposed—and no way to pay for them—it would actually increase the debt and make it that much harder to get our budget onto a sustainable path.”
Daniella Gibbs Leger, VP for American Values and New Communities
“Paul Ryan doesn’t even mention the middle class in his video once, and that’s because his budget does nothing for them. What the middle class needs are jobs. This budget incentivizes companies to move their jobs overseas. What we need are investments in smart job growth policies here at home.”
Dr. Alice Chen, Executive Director of Doctors for America
“If you’re in your forties today, by the time you’re eligible for Medicare you could pay at least $1,200 more under this plan. If you’re in your twenties today, you could pay at least $5,900 more under this plan. This is not a path to prosperity, this is a path to poor health.”
