Dear Friends,

We hope you had happy and restful holidays.  We are actively working on programs and policy for 2009 and will have much to share with you over the coming months.

  • In case you missed it, CAP co-hosted a discussion with Van Jones on his new book, The Green Collar Economy. Video from the event is available here.
  • Yesterday at the Hammer Museum in Westwood, Matt Miller gave a special presentation on his new book, The Tyranny of Dead Ideas. Click here for video from the event.
  • On January 30, you are invited to a conference at UCLA on U.S.-China relations under the Obama Administration. For more information, click here.

Several of our California-based senior fellows have been featured in the media recently. Nina Hachigian explains how to use the economic crisis to strengthen international institutions in The New RepublicThe Washington Post features Van Jones, his new book, and “The Green Machine.” Matt Miller sends a Memo to Obama in the Politico advising him to keep his options open during this economic crisis.

We would like to extend our congratulations to several of our former colleagues who have moved on to various posts in the new administration. Melody Barnes, Director of the Domestic Policy Council; Cassandra Butts, Deputy White House Council; Tom Daschle, Secretary of Health and Human Services; Brad Kiley, Director of the Office of Management and Administration; and Jeanne Lambrew, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Health Reform.
