The Progressive Beat will be back this week—Tuesday, May 13—at 6:30 p.m. on P.O.T.U.S. channel 130. Here's who we'll be talking with and what we'll be talking about:
Pilar Marrero—political editor at La Opinion, the nation's largest Spanish language daily newspaper—and Amy Holmes—a Republican strategist and CNN commentator—join me at the roundtable. We'll discuss the way issues are being covered on the campaign trail, as well as the election's influence on the progressive and conservative political movements.
We'll also speak with Congressman John Murtha (D-PA), the powerful chairman of the House of Representatives Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. He'll discuss Iraq war funding on the eve of congressional debate and tell us what he thinks when he hears the phrase "cut and run." For more information, read the Center for American Progress report: How Does This End? and Congressman Murtha's speech at the Center on the five-year anniversary of "Mission Accomplished." Also see the Center for American Progress Action Fund Progress Report for May 13th.
If you're curious about this year's outpouring of youth activism, tune in. Erica Williams —Issue Campaigns Manager for Campus Progress—will join us. Based on her experience and conversations with hundreds of young activists around the country, Erica will tell us what's motivating young people and what will keep them engaged after the November elections.
