President Bush's increasingly desperate defense of his national security strategy hinges on the disingenuous and factually challenged proposition that any deviation from his course of action "emboldens" the terrorists. Mounting evidence from the CIA, top U.S. military officials, Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, the UN, and the Iraqi Prime Minister suggests the exact opposite: the Bush administration's incompetence in securing Iraq has created thousands of new terrorists and allowed al Qaeda to regroup and multiply.
- President Bush's failure to making necessary adjustments in Iraq has created more terrorist opportunities. With entire cities falling out of U.S. control, the Bush administration's failure to adequately secure post-war Iraq has created a terrorist magnet. The inability to provide meaningful reconstruction and outreach efforts over the last year has led many ordinary Iraqis to support the insurgency and welcome attacks on Americans.
- President Bush's denial of reality hurts our troops. President Bush's insistence that progress is being made in Iraq appears unhinged from reality. As casualties and costs mount, the president's "resolute" stand on Iraq threatens to leave our troops in a quagmire.
- Americans deserves leadership that adjusts policies to do what is best for our troops and citizens. The situation in Iraq is deadly serious and demands a serious response. President Bush's continued fantasies about Iraq will only mean that more American servicemen and women must die for our leaders' incompetence and arrogance.
