Outreach and Campaign Manager, Anti-Hate and Immigration

American Progress has an immediate opening for an Outreach and Campaign Manager to join the Immigration team. The Outreach and Campaign Manager will lead the team’s work to push back against extremism, hate speech, hate acts, and nativism within the immigration space, managing two tables that focus on addressing hate in the United States. This position will also coordinate anti-hate efforts among American Progress and its partners. The Outreach and Campaign Manager will combine significant project management work with strategic thinking; rapid response communications; and research and analysis in an effort to combat the rise of hate toward immigrants and refugees.


  • Manage the daily operations of two tables of organizations focused on addressing hate in the United States; this will include overseeing multiple Listservs, organizing agendas, finding speakers, preparing logistics, and keeping track of all follow-ups for quarterly meetings.
    • One table is focused on addressing hate in the immigration debate, working to bring together anti-hate research groups, immigration policy organizations, and communications-focused organizations.
    • The other table is focused on undermining the use of communications and social media technologies by hate groups, as well as bringing together anti-hate strategists, technologists, and campaign professionals.
  • Manage projects and campaigns stemming from the two tables. These projects will require coordinating the efforts of multiple organizations in addition to American Progress; driving results; and ensuring that deadlines are met and deliverables are completed.
  • Support the Immigration team and Senior Fellow Henry Fernandez, in writing, research, and communication projects.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Immigration team, helping to think through strategy and tactics for combating hate in the United States.
  • Work to support the efforts of other teams at American Progress as they push back against hate—identifying crosscutting issues and projects—and serve as a resource for American Progress’ staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least four years of experience in a related advocacy, policy, or campaign position, as well as a demonstrated knowledge of immigration issues.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with a demonstrated record of work in pushing back against hate within the immigration space or with similar work experience that involved researching or campaigning against hate.
  • A proven track record of project management is required, as well as experience managing high-level partners—from a range of organizations—toward the production of deliverables.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to plan ahead and set priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; and the ability to work on a team.
  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and goals.

This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by IFPTE Local 70.
