Mark Egerman is a Senior Fellow at American Progress. Previously, Egerman co-founded Cover, the leading mobile payment application for restaurants. Cover employed more than 30 people, raised millions of dollars from leading venture capitalists, and was sold in 2015 to a global hospitality platform. Cover worked with hundreds of top restaurants in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles and was used by hundreds of thousands of consumers. Egerman speaks at events around the country on issues ranging from mobile payments and financial technology to workplace culture and more.

Before founding Cover, Egerman was one of the earliest members of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, serving on the card markets team in the bureau’s Research, Markets, and Regulations Division. Egerman worked on a number of initiatives, including founding Project Catalyst, and served as the bureauwide lead on mobile payments.

Egerman earned a bachelor’s of science with university honors from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science, a master’s degree with high honors in development economics from the University of Cambridge, and a J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School.
