Michael Madowitz

Michael Madowitz is an economist at American Progress whose work has focused on labor markets, financial markets, tax policy, household budgeting in different phases of life, and a variety of environmental economics topics.

In addition to his work in support of the Economic Policy team, Madowitz conducts research for peer-reviewed publications in the fields of environmental economics, public finance, and macroeconomics. He served as a dissertation fellow with Resources for the Future, where he researched the implications of energy taxes at the state level, and as a senior research assistant with the Brookings Institution, where he worked on the Brookings Papers on Economic Activity.

Madowitz comes to American Progress from the University of California, San Diego, where he earned a master’s degree in applied mathematics and will defend his dissertation in economics in the coming months. At UC San Diego, he studied macroeconomics, econometrics, and public economics, and conducted research on carbon taxes, state and local budget policy, renewable energy, and gas taxes. As a teaching assistant, he taught courses on macroeconomics, fiscal and monetary policy, environmental economics, and a variety of topics courses.
