About This Event
The federal government spends hundreds of billions of dollars every year contracting out government services ranging from the design and manufacture of sophisticated weapons systems to janitorial and maintenance work. Yet too often, the government contracts with companies with long track records of violating workplace laws.
Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund for a public event on how the government can uphold high standards among government contractors, featuring Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA). Sen. Harkin will discuss why companies with the most egregious records of violating workplace laws often continue to receive government contracts, and what improvements are needed to ensure that compliance with these important laws is considered in the contracting process. The Center for American Progress Action Fund will also release a new report demonstrating that contracting with these sorts of companies frequently results in poor performance on government contracts and a bad value for taxpayers.
