Responding to Russia’s Attack on Democracy

Center for American Progress Action Fund
12:00 - 1:00 PM EDT

Russian interference in our election and the elections of our European allies poses a serious challenge to U.S. national security and the international global order. Russian efforts to disrupt democracy are part of a deliberate foreign policy strategy to undercut the United States and its allies. Russia is exploiting the openness of liberal democracies to undermine democratic governance from the inside by pursuing an “active measures” or aktivniye meropriyatiya strategy that uses the country’s highly capable espionage tools not merely to acquire intelligence, but to influence events.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will discuss Russia’s approaches and intentions and will outline steps the U.S. needs to take to protect itself and its allies. She will argue that addressing this threat is a bipartisan challenge, impacting Republicans and Democrats alike. We need to get to the bottom of what happened and take steps to ensure our democracy is not attacked again. Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund and Senator Jeanne Shaheen for this important and timely discussion on Russia’s interference in our election and the elections of our European allies.

Keynote remarks:
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, (D-NH)
