Efforts are afoot this election season to create a false sense of crisis about Social Security. Some commentators have criticized the presidential candidates for not talking enough about the retirement savings program. But with the U.S. economy almost daily showing new weaknesses, and with the war in Iraq now continuing through its fifth year, we have enough real crises on our hands for the candidates to address.
