Reclaiming the Immigration Debate in America

This CAP Action Fund memo outlines a path forward for reclaiming the immigration debate in the United States.

The immigration debate in the United States today is nearly as broken as the country’s immigration system itself. For too long, Democrats have allowed President Donald Trump and Republicans to dictate the terms of the immigration debate. As a result, the public knows that Democrats oppose Trump’s cruel and inhumane policies, but they know little about what Democrats actually want to do to solve the problems with the U.S. immigration system. This memo by the Center for American Progress Action Fund outlines a path forward for Democrats to reclaim the immigration debate in the United States by advancing a new framework focused on restoring the rule of law by building a fair, humane, and workable immigration system.
