Washington, D.C. — More than one year ago, InsideClimate News and the Los Angeles Times laid out groundbreaking reports showing Exxon Mobil Corp.’s deliberate campaign to spread misinformation about climate science despite knowing about the problem since the 1970s. Since then, state and local leaders have initiated investigations and are taking the oil giant to court, seeking justice for investors, communities, and the public.
Tomorrow, the Center for American Progress Action Fund and the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy will host a panel of experts to discuss the state investigations and litigation working to hold ExxonMobil accountable for its role in climate change denial. Experts will also address the increased importance of state attorneys general investigations in the face of federal opposition and corporations invoking the First Amendment to block their efforts.
