PRESS CALL ADVISORY: Immigrant Leaders to Respond to Sen. Jeff Sessions’ Attorney General Nomination Hearing

Washington, D.C. — Following a contentious hearing for the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) for U.S. attorney general, immigrant leaders will respond and call on Congress to oppose his nomination.

Sessions is a leading opponent of legal immigration in the Senate and a champion of “self-deportation.” As attorney general, he would have oversight over the entire immigration judicial system, giving him the latitude to implement policies that could put many more immigrants into the deportation system.

Immigrant rights leaders, representing key constituencies, will hold a call tomorrow to call attention to key positions and remarks made by Sen. Sessions during the hearing and their effect on immigrant communities and the future of immigration reform.
