Washington, D.C. — The series of executive orders signed by the Trump administration shortly after taking office signaled a comprehensive anti-immigrant and anti-refugee agenda. The first executive order, and a revised version from March 6, which banned Muslim refugees and would cripple the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program, created chaos at airports around the country and left refugees in limbo. The two subsequent executive orders laid the blueprint for President Donald Trump’s deportation force, increasing immigration enforcement actions and enforcement resources at the southern border and in the interior of the country and resulting in Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents conducting raids throughout the country.
On Tuesday, March 14, the Center for American Progress Action Fund will host William F. Wechsler, CAP Action Senior Fellow and former deputy assistant secretary of defense for special operations and combating terrorism; Ramon Batista, assistant chief of the Tucson Police Department in Arizona; and Oscar Hernandez, Own the Dream Lead Field Organizer for United We Dream for a conversation about the domestic and national security implications, as well as the community impacts, of the Trump administration’s executive orders and the subsequent national and local events.
