PRESS CALL ADVISORY: Rep. Joaquin Castro Joins Progressive Leaders to Urge Congressional Action on Key Priorities

Washington, D.C. — On Thursday, January 11, Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX), the Center for American Progress, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and UnidosUS will hold a telephonic press conference to unveil a letter penned by progressive leaders, which delivers a clear message to Senate Majority Leader McConnell (R-KY), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI), and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA): By January 19 or earlier, Congress must address—as part of any deal to fund the government—urgent and unfinished business, including the need to provide permanent protection for Dreamers, relief to areas affected by recent natural disasters, and reauthorization of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Castro, along with these progressive leaders, will remind Congress that millions of Americans are counting on it to ensure that there will be no further delays on all of these key priorities, which have been held hostage for far too long. For the reasons laid out in the letter, 55 progressive organizations have signed on to demand congressional action.
