PRESS CALL ADVISORY: Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ), Dreamers, and Immigration Experts Hold Press Call to Discuss Upcoming Partisan Immigration Proposals

Washington, D.C. — Last week, Congress abandoned bipartisan efforts that would have forced consideration on bills to provide permanent protections for Dreamers, including the Dream Act and the Uniting and Securing America (USA) Act. Instead, this week the House will be voting on two partisan, politically motivated bills: one from Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) that includes a laundry list of enforcement provisions and another from U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), which is disguised as a compromise but would be equally bad for immigrants, as it makes it harder for individuals seeking asylum to find protection in the United States, slashes levels of future migration, and allows children to be locked up with their parents. What is worse, neither of these bills actually ends the Trump administration’s policy of family separation.

On Wednesday, June 20, the Center for American Progress will host a press call with Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ)a local Arizona Dreamer, and immigration advocates to discuss why they are rejecting these two extreme, partisan proposals.
