EVENT ADVISORY: CAPAF Co-Sponsors Climate Summit to Offer Forum for Presidential Candidates on Climate Change Crisis

Washington, D.C. — On September 23, The New Republic and Gizmodo will host a presidential climate summit in New York City, where all the Democratic presidential candidates are invited to discuss one of the most pressing issues facing the planet: climate change.

This summit offers candidates a chance to address head-on an issue that received little attention during the first round of presidential debates. Participating candidates will appear on stage one by one at the forum-style event to be asked questions by a moderator and others. They will be asked to respond to key policy statements and claims now shaping the Democratic climate agenda. The summit will help voters understand how each candidate plans to counter the devastating effects of global warming.

This format could be changed to a debate if the Democratic National Committee changes its rules, which currently bar candidates from participating in non-DNC-hosted debates.

Other partners and sponsors include the Center for American Progress Action Fund, Earthjustice Action, the Union of Concerned Scientists, the National Resources Defense Council Action Fund, the League of Conservation Voters, and Columbia University’s Earth Institute.

New York political anchor Errol Louis will moderate the forum. Climate Justice Alliance will ensure that front-line communities and youth are well represented at the summit.
