ONLINE EVENT ADVISORY: A Conversation With Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on Voting Rights

Washington, D.C. — Democracy and all that it entails has been a cornerstone of what it means to be an American for centuries. Since the earliest days of this country, people have fought to ensure that this ideal is accessible to everyone who lives here, not just the privileged few.

In recent years, the United States has seen renewed attacks on voting rights and unprecedented new efforts to sabotage elections. This country has the policy tools at its disposal to secure its democracy and build the kind of multiracial democracy embedded in its initial promise. But Congress must act now and pass legislation sitting in the Senate. Over the coming weeks, the Center for American Progress Action Fund will hold a series of events highlighting what is at stake and the need for immediate congressional action.

On January 11, please join CAP Action for a conversation between Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and CAP Action CEO Patrick Gaspard on the urgency of this moment and the stakes for U.S. democracy. At a moment when many state legislatures are advancing partisan efforts to restrict the freedom to vote, the Senate, under Sen. Schumer’s leadership, remains a critical bulwark in securing democracy.

There will be time for questions from reporters following the discussion.
