RELEASE: In Era of Trump Resistance, New Podcast to Focus on Poverty and Inequality

Washington, D.C. — Today, the Center for American Progress Action Fund will launch Off-Kilter, a podcast about poverty and inequality in America—and everything they intersect with. Formerly TalkPoverty Radio, Off-Kilter will feature a diverse range of experts, activists, journalists, elected officials, and others to break down the issues of the day and will inform listeners on how to hold President Donald Trump, his administration, and Congress accountable for their policy agenda.

“The resistance to Donald Trump and Speaker Ryan’s Congress is growing by the day. In just the first few months of the Trump administration, millions have protested policies that target people based on their faith, gender, sexuality, and income,” said Off-Kilter host Rebecca Vallas, who also serves as Managing Director for the Poverty to Prosperity Program at the Center for American Progress Action Fund. “Off-Kilter hopes to serve as a voice for that movement. We will provide our listeners not only with engaging, timely information about poverty and inequality in America but also empower our listeners to fight back against policies that are deeply at odds with the values of fairness, equality, and opportunity for all.”

Off-Kilter’s debut episode will feature Sarah Jaffe, author of Necessary Trouble: Americans in Revolt; Ezra Levin, executive director of Indivisible and one of the authors of the “Indivisible Guide”; and Dorian Warren, president of the Center for Community Change Action. In the coming weeks, Off-Kilter will feature guests such as Sarah McBride, press secretary of the Human Rights Campaign; Katrina vanden Heuvel, editor and publisher of The Nation; disability activist Anastasia Somoza; Tressie McMillan Cottom, author of Lower Ed: The Troubling Rise of For-Profit Colleges in the New Economy; and others.

Off-Kilter airs on the Progressive Voices radio network on Saturdays at 11 a.m. ET, Sundays at 10 a.m. ET, and Mondays at 7 a.m. ET and broadcasts from Anacostia in Washington, D.C., on We Act Radio on Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. ET. Off-Kilter is also available as a podcast on iTunes.

Jon Sinton, co-founder of the Progressive Voices radio network said, “Off Kilter represents a new approach to presenting the realities of inequality to a broad audience. Rebecca is the perfect host because she manages to make a hard subject engaging and even fun. We’re really excited to embark on this new journey with CAP Action and can’t wait to hear audience feedback on a surprisingly fun and inventive show.”
