Washington, D.C. — Today, the Town Hall Project and Center for American Progress Action Fund announced a formal partnership to ensure that every constituent is empowered to resist President Donald Trump’s harmful agenda and members of Congress who aren’t speaking for them. By joining forces, the two organizations will ensure that all Americans have the tools needed to channel their organic energy to make sure their voices are heard and their elected representatives are held accountable, whether through face-to-face conversations with their elected representatives at town halls or at marches and rallies to fight back and show solidarity around a particular issue or set of values.
The partnership is reflected at ResistanceNearMe.org, CAP Action’s relaunched website that now mirrors TownHallProject.com and shares events collected by the Town Hall Project’s team of grassroots researchers, as well as additional events organized by CAP Action and other progressive allies. The site is a central hub for users to search for public events held by members of Congress in their districts, as well as any other local resistance action.
“As we’ve seen around the Muslim bans and Republican attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, resistance works and people have more power than they think,” said Emily Tisch Sussman, Director of Campaigns for the Center for American Progress Action Fund that also just released a new recess toolkit that’s featured on both sites.
The Town Hall Project empowers constituents across the country to have face-to-face conversations with their elected representatives. Led by veteran organizers, the Town Hall Project includes researchers, organizers, and developers across the country working to make town hall events easy to find and to promote constituent engagement with elected officials.
”We launched Town Hall Project because we know that engaged and informed citizens are more powerful than any special interest group or political party,” said Town Hall Project founder Jimmy Dahman. “This partnership is the next step in our effort to hold elected officials accountable during this vital April recess and for years to come.”
One thing is clear after nearly 100 days of Trump being in office and Republican control of Washington: The resistance is strong. And this partnership will ensure it stays that way.
