Washington, D.C. — Ahead of President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union address, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Debra Messing, Cecile Richards, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), Piper Perabo, Ben Wikler, and Andy Slavitt joined Center for American Progress Action Fund CEO Neera Tanden for a new CAP Action Fund video titled “Our Union is Strong Because of You.” In the video, progressive leaders recap the successes fueled by the resistance—from rallying at the historic Women’s March to defeating attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“One year into Trump’s presidency, the resistance remains as fierce as ever. CAP Action’s video highlights the brave and inspiring work of everyday Americans who participated in our great democratic process and kept our union strong—despite Donald Trump’s repeated efforts to divide us,” said Igor Volsky, deputy director of CAP Action.

In the video, progressive leaders—including composer/lyricist/playwright/actor Miranda, actor Messing, Planned Parenthood President Richards, Democratic Sens. Booker and Murphy, actor Perabo, Washington MoveOn.org Director Wikler, and health care activist and former Centers on Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Slavitt—join CAP Action’s Tanden to remind Americans of the important steps they took to stand up to the Trump administration throughout 2017—and that they must continue to stand strong in 2018 and beyond.
