Washington, D.C. — Today, President Donald Trump will be in Las Vegas to hold an event at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where he will likely tout his administration’s record on a variety of issues. In previous visits to Nevada, President Trump made sweeping promises to working families on kitchen-table issues such as health care, protection for Dreamers, and the economy. But in reality, the administration has failed to deliver on Trump’s basic promises to working families.

Health care
Promise: “We will…have health care that is so good and so much less expensive.” — Donald Trump in Las Vegas, October 30, 2016
Reality: The Trump administration launched an all-out attack on Americans’ health care by trying to repeal and sabotage the Affordable Care Act (ACA), including by backing a lawsuit that is currently in the courts. If the ACA is repealed:
- 1.2 million Nevadans with preexisting conditions will lose protections.
- 282,000 Nevadans will lose their health coverage.
- The average Nevada family would see an average annual premium increase of $2,220, as of 2019.
Profits over wages
Promise: “I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created. … [O]ur poorer citizens will get new jobs and higher pay and new hope for their life.” — Donald Trump in Henderson, Nevada, October 5, 2016
Reality: The Trump administration has taken away safeguards that ensure workers are paid overtime, protect retirees from exploitative financial advisers, and ensure that people pay less at the gas pump. The Trump administration blocked a minimum wage increase denying a pay increase to 539,000 Nevada workers, resulting in $1 billion in lost wages for the state. Due to the Trump administration’s policies, Nevadans will lose:
Dreamers
Promise: “We’re going to work something out that’s going to make people happy and proud. [Dreamers] got brought here at a very young age, they’ve worked here, they’ve gone to school here. Some were good students. Some have wonderful jobs.” — Donald Trump, November 28, 2016
Reality: President Trump assured Dreamers that they could “rest easy” and said he was not interested in targeting them for deportation. Yet less than one year after taking office, his administration ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
- There are 36,000 eligible Dreamers living in Nevada, and 120,100 people living in a household with at least one Dreamer.
- The average Dreamer in Nevada arrived when they were 8 years old.
- Nevada Dreamers are crucial to the state’s economy. They pay more than $213 million in federal taxes; pay more than $92 million in state and local taxes; and spend $1 billion on goods and services, boosting the economy.
Taxes
Promise: “We are going to massively cut taxes for the middle class.” — Donald Trump in Reno, Nevada, November 5, 2016
Reality: Most of the Trump administration’s $2 trillion tax cut goes to corporations and the rich. Many Nevada families are getting stuck with the bill.
- 73,900 Nevada families paid more in taxes last year due to the Trump administration’s tax bill.
- In Nevada, the average tax cut for the wealthiest 1 percent was $104,700, while the bottom 80 percent of earners saw a small fraction of that.
