Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress Action Fund today announced Angela Maria Kelley as its new Executive Director. In this new role, she will oversee the day-to-day operations of CAP Action, including the Wonk Room and ThinkProgress. She returns to the American Progress family after previously serving as the organizations’ Vice President for Immigration Policy.
CAP Action President Neera Tanden issued the following statement on Kelley’s new role:

Angie’s communications, policy, and political skills have been profoundly helpful in reshaping the debate around immigration in our country, and we look forward to her using her many talents to bring progressive change across a range of issues. Particularly in this coming election year, she will help guide CAP Action’s strategy and advocacy efforts to ensure we are holding conservatives accountable for their ideas, all the while bringing progressive policies to the center of the national debate.
Kelley is a well-known authority on the policy and the politics of immigration with more than two decades of experience and led American Progress’ immigration policy efforts for five years. More recently, she worked with the White House on its immigration executive actions, was a special adviser to the Latino Victory Project, consulted for the American Immigration Council, and worked with Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She is also widely quoted in the press, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Politico, and makes frequent radio and TV appearances, including on PBS, MSNBC, Fox News, and NPR.
Kelley, the daughter of South American immigrants, began her career as an attorney for a legal services agency in Washington, D.C., representing low-income immigrants on immigration and family matters.
