STATEMENT: CAP Action’s Karla Walter on the Preliminary Injunction Against the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order

Washington, D.C. — Karla Walter, Director of the American Worker Project at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, released the following statement today after the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas issued a preliminary injunction against the U.S. Department of Labor’s final regulations related to the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order:

The Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order will protect millions of workers, ensure that law-abiding business can compete on an even playing field, and ensure that taxpayers receive a good value for their investment. Confronted by a Republican-controlled Congress that has sided time and again with special interests, President Barack Obama acted well within his authority to promote economy and efficiency in government contracting and helped ensure that the federal government contracts with responsible companies. While today’s decision—handed down by a conservative court—temporarily delays implementation of the order, history demonstrates that the fair pay order will ultimately be upheld.
