Tomorrow: Trumpcare’s Day in Court

The Trump administration is attacking your health care again

Tomorrow, Trump’s administration is launching another attack on our health care, this time through the courts.

As a candidate in 2016, Trump promised voters he’d make sure everyone had “great health care.” Instead, he—with help from his Congressional allies—has spent his entire presidency trying to take away coverage and protections from millions.

Now, after failing to repeal the Affordable Care Act in Congress, the Trump Administration is supporting a lawsuit brought by 18 Republican-led states aimed at repealing the health care law. These states are doing Trump’s bidding, threatening coverage for tens of millions.

Share this video on Facebook and Twitter to spread the word: Trump’s administration is launching another attack on our health care in the courts tomorrow.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • The lawsuit: 18 states are arguing that without the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate (which Congressional Republicans themselves repealed), the entire law is unconstitutional and must be repealed. In other words: because of their OWN sabotage of the ACA, Trump’s allies are arguing that the law is now unconstitutional.
  • What’s at stake: If the plaintiff states succeed, 20 million Americans could lose coverage, and 134 million people with preexisting conditions will lose the protections that guarantee their access to quality, affordable health care. Preexisting conditions include a wide range of common conditions like diabetes, asthma, anxiety, depression, cancer, acne, extreme obesity, and sleep apnea. Drug prices could also skyrocket for seniors. Watch and listen to the stories of Americans who depend on the Affordable Care Act—and what’s at risk if it’s repealed.
  • The corruption: These states have the full support of Trump and his hand-picked attorney general, William Barr. Barr’s Justice Department filed a court brief in May essentially asking the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to repeal the Affordable Care Act altogether. The lawsuit is so shoddy and politically-driven that career DOJ lawyers refused to sign onto it. Trump overruled them anyway.
