STATEMENT: House Republicans’ Temporary Government Funding Bill Fails To Protect Americans’ Health Care, Says CAP Action’s Neera Tanden

Washington, D.C. — Today, House Republicans released text of a bill to fund the government through November 20, 2025. In response, Neera Tanden, CEO of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, released the following statement:

Democrats in Congress have rightly said that they can’t support government funding deals that put the United States on track for the largest increase in health insurance costs in years, which could lead to millions losing coverage. Congressional Republicans have already kicked the can down the road by failing to avert this catastrophe as part of the party’s big, “beautiful” bill. It’s past time for congressional leaders to engage in bipartisan negotiations to keep the government funded, protect Americans’ health, and prevent the president from unilaterally dictating which parts of government to keep open. As Americans begin receiving notices over the next several weeks that their premiums are set to skyrocket, they will have no one to blame except Republicans in Congress, who continue to ignore a problem of their own making.
