EVENT ADVISORY: World Leaders To Chart a New Era of Progressive Power at Global Progress Action Summit in Toronto

Toronto — On May 9, political leaders and policy experts from around the world will come together for the 2026 Global Progress Action Summit, the premier multinational gathering of progressive thinkers, policymakers, and leaders.

In 2026, the world faces the most significant challenge to peace and prosperity since WWII. Against a backdrop of global insecurity and a growing authoritarianism, leaders across politics and civil society have an opportunity and responsibility to respond by offering a clear alternative. The new global order needs leaders who will wield power for their citizens, not against them.

Leaders from Canada, the United States, and around the world will meet in Toronto to discuss a new vision of political power, governance, and cooperation to meet this moment. They will discuss how movements and nations must work together to defend peace, counter authoritarianism, fight corruption, and ensure democracy can deliver tangible results that solve the problems people face in their daily lives.

Featured speakers confirmed for the 2026 GPA Summit include:

  • Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Canada
  • Magdalena Andersson, Former Prime Minister, Sweden
  • Pete Buttigieg, Former Secretary of Transportation, United States
  • François-Philippe Champagne, Finance Minister and Minister of National Revenue, Canada
  • Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry, Canada
  • Lars Klingbeil, Minister of Finance, Germany
  • Sen. Elissa Slotkin, Senator, Michigan, United States
  • Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, Canada
  • Neera Tanden, CEO, Center for American Progress Action Fund

The 2026 GPA Summit will also feature an exclusive conversation with Jonathan Haidt, author of The Anxious Generation, addressing the responsibility of governments and leaders to curb the youth digital crisis.

The 2026 GPA Summit is co-hosted by Global Progress Action, a project of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, and Canada 2020.
