RELEASE: CAP Action War Room Launches IsTrumpAtBedminster.org, Tracking Trump Vacation Costs

Washington, D.C. — As the Mar-a-Lago social season winds down and President Donald Trump heads to his summer retreat in Bedminster, New Jersey, the Center for American Progress Action Fund today launched IsTrumpAtBedminster.org, a comprehensive site to track the astronomical cost taxpayers pay for Trump’s resort vacations. The site builds off of the viral hit IsTrumpAtMarALago.org. This real-time tracker will log the time and taxpayer money the president expends at Bedminster and the rest of his vacation properties. As Trump stands to receive a whopping $120 million from Congress to pay for his family’s unprecedented travel, CAP Action will continue to hold the president accountable for his wanton spending.

CAP Action estimates that a single trip to Bedminster costs taxpayers nearly $840,000 over three days, using estimates of similar activities from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, the township of Bedminster, and the conservative group Judicial Watch. CAP Action highlights the skyrocketing burden of funding the president’s vacations and puts the taxpayer drain in context, providing comparable funding alternatives such as Meals on Wheels or Pell Grants—programs that Trump wants to cut.

“Whether he’s at Mar-A-Lago or Bedminster, we will hold President Trump accountable for lavishly spending taxpayer dollars at his own properties while trying to take health care away from 24 million people and doling out tax giveaways to the wealthiest Americans,” said CAP Action Senior Researcher Molly Cain.

The site will be updated in real time throughout Trump’s term. For more information or to speak to an expert, contact Morgan Finkelstein at [email protected] or 202.478.5311.
