STATEMENT: House Energy Committee Passes First Global Warming Bill

By John Podesta, President and CEO, Center for American Progress Action Fund

“Today the House Energy and Commerce Committee chose a clean energy future over the policies of the past that slowed our economy, punished families and left us hooked on foreign oil. Tonight’s passage of American Clean Energy and Security Act will create thousands of manufacturing and construction jobs, cut oil use, and reduce pollution.

“This has been historic week for clean energy in Washington, DC with the first greenhouse gas limits for cars announced on Tuesday, and the first House global warming bill passed today. President Barack Obama, Chairman Henry Waxman, and Chairman Ed Markey demonstrated tremendous leadership by bringing together states, business, labor, and environmentalists to reach these essential agreements.”
