Summary

American Progress has an immediate opening for a Partnerships Associate to support its Digital Advocacy team’s coordination and amplification efforts to build the case for progressive policies and values.

With Americans facing an increasing volume of news and media content, it has never been more important to amplify progressive policies and build up the necessary communications infrastructure to break through the noise and reach key audiences—and American Progress is committed to leading the way in doing so.

A strong candidate for this role will work as part of a team that builds relationships outside of and across the progressive political landscape in order to promote messaging and content, ultimately improving the performance and reach of progressive policy content online. They will have a keen interest in and understanding of relationship management, how content gets disseminated across platforms, progressive influencers and organizations, and aspects of the digital landscape. The Partnerships Associate’s responsibilities will include co-managing a digital community of partners, building individual relationships with strategists and organizations, identifying opportunities for partner engagement and expansion, and supporting the execution of the Advocacy and Outreach department’s overarching strategy. The Partnerships Associate will also play a pivotal role in identifying and relaying best practices that the Center for American Progress Action Fund can use to help improve the performance of partners’ online content.

This is a full-time position funded for one year, with opportunities for extensions.

Responsibilities:

  • Help identify, track, cultivate, and strengthen American Progress’ external relationships with partners.
  • Co-manage a robust online community of more than 300 partners, including daily content distribution, collaboration opportunities, and event planning and execution.
  • Own specified partnerships, serving as the lead point of contact and ensuring a strong relationship is established and maintained, including with high-level partners and elected officials.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and/or engagement between American Progress and its partners, including pitching content for promotion on social media, video collaborations, event opportunities, messaging strategy, and more.
  • Identify new potential partners and ways to expand and deepen American Progress’ work with progressive voices as well other less ideologically focused communities and nonpolitical voices.
  • Stay up to date on the latest trends and best practices for digital content and distribution.
  • Share feedback from and among partners on content performance, effective tactics, and emerging needs.
  • Track and report out on metrics and progress.
  • Represent CAP Action at partner events as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least two years of professional experience in partnerships, political organizing, and/or advocacy. Experience pitching ideas and landing collaborations with a range of online platforms desired.
  • Demonstrated willingness to engage a wide range of potential partners and community organizations—including progressive groups, elected officials, and strategists as well as unaligned groups and nonideological communities.
  • Expert networking skills, proactive, and a self-starter; ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Interest in a range of policy approaches, a strategic approach to advocacy, and relationships within the progressive movement is a plus.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to juggle multiple projects for different stakeholders, often in rapid-response or high-pressure situations.
  • Creative and committed to innovation and experimentation; open to developing new skills as needed.
  • Positive team player with an open mind and a passion for and commitment to the values and ideals advanced by American Progress.
