RELEASE: As Trump’s Disapproval Rating Skyrockets, New Analysis Finds Vulnerable Republicans Vote With Him 100 Percent of the Time

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Republicans eked out an election win by single digits in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, which President Donald Trump won by 22 percentage points in 2024. Today, the Center for American Progress Action Fund released an updated analysis showing how often members of Congress vote in alignment with President Trump’s priorities.

The analysis finds that of the 18 House Republicans representing districts that the Cook Political Report rates as competitive (“toss-up” or “lean” races), 14 of them vote with President Trump 100 percent of the time; and all 18 of these members vote with Trump more than 96 percent of the time. The analysis comes as President Trump’s job approval rating has plummeted—with his net disapproval rating having tripled since he signed the Big, “Beautiful” Bill into law this summer, according to RealClearPolitics’ aggregate job approval tracker. More broadly, the analysis finds that 88 percent of the House Republican Conference votes with Trump 100 percent of the time.

“Donald Trump is an electoral anchor for Republicans in Congress,” said Colin Seeberger, senior adviser for Communications at CAP Action. “As last night’s election results in Tennessee show, Americans are rejecting his agenda that is driving up costs. In next year’s midterm elections, every member of Congress will have to answer for what they did when President Trump’s policies made it harder for families to afford the basics. For vulnerable Republicans, they’ll have to answer for why they did nothing, backing the president every step of the way.”
