Sara Estep is a research assistant for Economic Policy focusing on fiscal policy at American Progress. Prior to joining American Progress, she was a policy intern at the Rhode Island Department of Revenue, where she analyzed a range of fiscal issues. She also spent time as a research intern at the U.S. Naval War College, examining China’s blue economy with faculty in the National Security Affairs department. During the 2014 election cycle, she was a deputy field organizer for the Rhode Island Democratic Party and worked on Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo’s campaign.
Estep earned a master’s degree in political economy from Georgetown University and Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management. She received her bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from the University of Rhode Island, where her honors thesis explored topics in shared capitalism and the historical decline in worker unionization.
