‘‘The right to vote is the core of our democracy. Without it, we don’t have one. The flood of voter suppression bills we’ve seen proposed and passed across the country is an affront to our values.’’ — Sen. Bob Casey

In case you missed it: 18 states and counting have recently enacted measures to curb voting rights. It’s more clear than ever — we don’t have time to waste. It’s time for Congress to pass the For the People Act.

Democracy defenders like Stacey Abrams are fighting back against these blatant attacks on our right to vote — but she needs your help.

IN THE NEWS

  • Biden extends eviction moratorium — thanks to the hard work of activists like Rep. Cori Bush. Bush, who knows firsthand the danger and heartbreak of eviction, camped out on the Capitol steps for three nights demanding action on the expiring eviction moratorium that would put millions of Americans out on the street. Yesterday, Bush succeeded — the new ban on evictions was put in place until October.
  • Support for caregivers continues to be a hot topic among voters, including several who have shared their personal stories in the hopes of building support for Biden’s home care plan. One thing remains clear: Our current home care system is broken, and the American people are demanding better.
  • What does Trump have to hide? A lot, from the looks of it. At the very least, his legal team is fighting to once again block the release of his tax returns — on the basis that the information found might be “embarrassing.” Maybe he should have thought about that when it was time to pay his fair share.
