Donald Trump’s White House is considering extreme measures that would set the LGBT community, and the country, back decades.
This week, news broke that Trump could issue an executive order as early as Thursday that would create a sweeping license to discriminate against LGBT people and restrict women’s access to healthcare. Leaked drafts suggest that the order would establish sweeping religious exemptions to federal nondiscrimination protections, authorizing discrimination in employment, healthcare, housing, adoption, and more.
And that’s not all. Ivanka Trump, who claims to be a friend of women and the LGBT community, has said she plans to review all executive orders before they are signed. Let her know that this attack on LGBT individuals would be the most anti-LGBT government action in history.
Here’s what you can do:
1. Call the White House at 202–456–1414 and ask for Ivanka’s office.
2. Tell Ivanka’s office that this EO is an attack on LGBT people and women.
3. Tweet this: .@realdonaldtrump: I don’t want my tax dollars funding discrimination against LGBT people or women. Don’t issue a #LicenseToDiscriminate.
Here’s what you can say:
This executive order could lead taxpayer-funded government contractors claim a right to fire employees for being LGBT — putting LGBT people’s livelihoods at risk.
This executive order could allow businesses and colleges to block coverage of contraception and preventative health services (like STI and HIV screenings) for employees and students.
This executive order could let a homeless shelter receiving federal funds turn away LGBT homeless youth or single moms.
Tell the Trumps: this sweeping, taxpayer-funded discrimination shouldn’t even be up for debate.
