- Trump has openly embraced spewing racism, nativism, and hatred as a strategy to “energize his base,” and the El Paso shooter’s manifesto reads like a Trump campaign speech. Trump’s half-hearted teleprompter speech was nothing more than empty words designed to shield him from responsibility. He offered no real solutions.
- Senator McConnell and Senate Republicans refuse to pass (or even vote on!) ANY legislation to reduce gun violence, despite the fact that 97% of Americans support universal background checks (and there’s readymade legislation that passed the House to require background checks). There is also no reason a weapon that can kill 9 people in 30 seconds should be on our streets.
- Why? Because they care more about the NRA blood money that lines their campaign war chests than saving lives—especially if those lives aren’t white.
Share this graphic to hold Trump and Senate Republicans accountable—because they’re standing in the way of saving lives:
Gun violence disportionately impacts some communities in the nation, with acts of daily gun violence often failing to receive any coverage. Last weekend, for example, a mass shooting occurred in Brownsville, Brooklyn, where 12 people were shot, 1 person fatally, receiving limited press coverage.
As former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) said this morning, “This president’s open racism is also an invitation to violence…Anyone who is surprised is part of this problem.”
