Active duty Army officer who Trump smeared testifies in impeachment probe
Day three of the public hearings in the House impeachment investigation starts in 30 minutes. Here’s what you need to know about today’s witnesses:
- Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman: Vindman is an active duty Army officer and top Ukraine official on the National Security Council. He was on the July 25 call between Trump and Zelensky and confirmed in previous testimony that Trump withheld aid to pressure Ukraine into investigating his political rivals.
- Jennifer Williams: Williams is a top national security aide to Vice President Pence. She testified that Trump’s efforts to pressure Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 elections were “unusual and inappropriate,” and “shed some light on possible other motivations.”
- Tim Morrison: Morrison is one of Trump’s top advisors on Russia and Europe. Like Vindman, Morrision confirmed Trump’s impeachable abuses of power and corroborated Ambassador Bill Taylor’s damning testimony.
- Kurt Volker: Trump’s former special envoy to Ukraine, Volker was in charge of executing Trump’s effort to pressure Ukraine’s president into publicly announcing investigations into Trump’s political opponents.
