Hillary’s Big News

Hillary Clinton Launches Early Childhood Development Initiative

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made quite a splash earlier this week when she joined Twitter. Clinton continued to grab headlines yesterday with a speech at the CGI America conference outlining some of her priorities for the next phase of her public life: “early childhood development, opportunities for women and girls, and economic development that creates jobs and gives more people in more places the chance to live up to their own god-given potential.”

In particular, Clinton called on the private sector to join the push for high-quality early childhood education, an issue she has worked on throughout her life. She also acknowledged the important role of public investments in this area, such as President Obama’s Preschool for All proposal.

Just this morning Clinton formally announced the Too Small to Fail children’s initiative, a new, national effort to improve the health and well-being of kids ages zero to five. The initiative, which Clinton is working on with Next Generation, “will promote scientific research about early childhood development with the goal of reaching as many American parents and business leaders as possible and motivating them to act.”

Check out this video on the new initiative that Clinton released this morning:

BOTTOM LINE: In the video Clinton says, “Our country’s future depends on healthy kids and loving families. They’re the building blocks of a strong and prosperous society.” This is exactly why we need to make the kind of new investments in our kids that CAP and President Obama have both proposed. It’s the right thing to do for our kids and the smart thing to do for our economy.
