As the cost of attending higher education institutions continues to increase, many young people are looking to technical education programs to jump-start their careers. Michael D’Amico of Pittsboro, North Carolina, enrolled in an automotive system technology program at his local community college to get a job working on cars. Since the enactment of the Inflation Reduction Act, newly announced electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plants are bringing hundreds of thousands of job opportunities to students like Michael.

I have had a fire-burning passion for cars since I could remember. I’m really excited to see more EV manufacturers coming to North Carolina. Everyone thinks of Detroit when they think of car manufacturing. But to say in five to six years that Chatham County, North Carolina, will be known for making cars is so cool. VinFast is bringing 7,000 jobs to my backyard, and I hope to work there someday. Michael D’Amico

The Inflation Reduction Act is bringing an estimated $2.7 billion in investments to North Carolina and creating exciting futures for students like Michael right in their home states.
