The Stringent Screening Process For Entry To The United States For Syrian Refugees

Syrian refugees face a long security screening process before being admitted for entry to the United States. Averaging 18 months to 24 months, the process is the most intensive of any check conducted for people seeking admission to the United States and is specially designed to mitigate threats and helps ensure Americans are not placed in harm’s way. The graphic below details the 21 steps a Syrian refugee must go through to be admitted to the United States:

BOTTOM LINE: This is a chance for America to be its best self. Blocking Syrian refugees, or even throwing up more bureaucratic hurdles to “pause” the review process, only validates ISIS’s attempt to create irrational fear. America is better than that. We cannot abandon the world’s most vulnerable people when they need America’s strength the most.
