New developments continue to arise in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia. Yesterday, there were new indictments, possibly strengthening the case for “why Manafort would facilitate collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.” The new evidence points to a desperate Manafort, who was allegedly willing to use his Russian connections to pay off debts that were overwhelming him.
Today, reports indicate that Rick Gates, a former Trump associate, will plead guilty, suggesting that he may be willing to spill some secrets in return for a lighter deal. All of these developments are critical in the Russia probe, but there is still one person who hasn’t agreed to talk to Mueller who is central to all of this: President Trump. His answers are crucial to getting to the bottom of what really happened. See below on how you can take action today to urge Trump to sit down with Mueller and tell the truth.

WHAT’S TRENDING
#BoycottTheNRA. Following the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, many have turned their attention to the NRA and its ties to members of Congress. But they don’t just have partnerships with elected officials. In fact, many widely-recognized companies have partnerships with the NRA that allow NRA members to receive discounts at their stores. In the past day, three major car rental companies and US Bank have broken those relationships. Continue to demand these companies end these partnerships. Student Protesters. As more students across the country plan walk-outs to demand action on gun violence prevention, some schools are warning that these students might be disciplined or even expelled. Needville Independent School District in Texas sent a letter saying, “Please be advised that the Needville ISD will not allow a student demonstration during school hours for any type of protest or awareness!!” adding that they will discipline everyone involved, “whether one, fifty, or five hundred students.” Due to such incidents, the ACLU has begun offering advice and support for students who want to protest.
FACT CHECK
CPAC. This morning, Trump spoke for nearly 1.5 hours at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Here’s just a few of the lies he told.
- Economy: Trump claims to be savings thousands of jobs across the U.S. But hundreds of workers continued to get laid off, like at Carrier.
- Taxes: He told the crowd that everyone was benefiting from the tax bill. But 83 percent of the benefits will ultimately go to the richest 1 percent.
GOOD NEWS
Progress in Oregon. While many national leaders, including the president, refuse to consider common sense gun laws to prevent future gun violence, state legislators in Oregon have already begun taking action. Yesterday, they passed legislation “banning anyone with a domestic violence conviction from owning a firearm.” Often referred to as the “boyfriend loophole,” this opening for those with domestic violence convictions represents a major area for reform in our country, and Oregon is leading the way. Now, it’s time for other states to follow their lead.
